New PlayStation headsets revealed just in time for Destiny’s release

Feeding off the hype of Destiny's launch tomorrow, Sony revealed today new peripheral options for PlayStation gamers.

Odds are you've already seen the Glacier White PS4. This color is available exclusively as part of the Destiny PS4 Bundle which hits stores tomorrow. However, Sony notes that starting tomorrow you'll also be able to get the Glacier White DualShock 4 and the "extremely limited edition" Glacier White version of the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset, which is said to be only available "for a short time while supplies last" — or until Sony decides to mass produce them (which you know will happen if popular enough).

Sony also confirmed that they have an exclusive Destiny audio mode that will be available via the free Headset Companion App for PS4 and PS3 starting tomorrow. "Enjoy the sounds of the Destiny universe the way Bungie intended with this custom-tuned audio mode for the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset," Sony's brand marketing senior manager Anand Agarwal said.

And then there's also the newly announced Silver Wired Stereo Headset for PS4, PS3, and compatible with the Vita via the 3.5mm jack. The newest member of the headset lineup offers all of the following features:

  • Immersive 7.1 virtual surround sound
  • Custom audio modes created by developers specifically for PlayStation games
  • Retractable boom mic for voice chat while playing online
  • Breathable ear cushions and a lightweight design for hours of gameplay
  • In-line volume and mic controls

The Silver Wired Stereo Headset will be available this fall for $69.99.

Lastly, there's new DualShock 4 wireless controllers in Wave Blue, Urban Camouflage (now available), and Glacier White (available tomorrow).

Got all that? Now go get in line to pick up your copy of Destiny, unless you've already pre-loaded the digital version. In that case, you're all good to go.
