New race and jobs coming to Final Fantasy 14 with Heavensward expansion

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be getting a new race, two new jobs and a new raid with its new expansion, Heavensward.

With Fan Festivals taking place in Tokyo for Final Fantasy 14, game director Naoki Yoshida shared details with those in attendance. The new race is the Au Ra, the sixth playable race in the MMO. The Au Ra have very distinct features, with scaled skin, long tails and horns coming out of their heads. They come from the continent of Othard.

While a new race is nice, the new jobs are even better. The two new jobs — Machinist and Astrologian — will not require a base class. Machinist is a ranged, physical DDPS class that wields guns and builds turrets. The Astrologian is a healing class that uses the magic of the stars to cast spells with divination cards, where different combinations of cards will have different effects.

Lastly, there was a new raid revealed, a giant, old mechanical fortress named Alexander where Goblins have summoned a primal essence. Alexander is an end-game raid with both a normal and hard mode.

Heavensward, the first expansion for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, will be releasing early next year. It's also bringing flying mounts and personal airships to the game, so get ready to take to the skies!
