Scooby and the gang will be making their way back to the big screen, according to
The Hollywood Reporter. This will be the first time the gang is back in theaters since the live action movies back — Scooby Doo back in 2012, and its sequel Scooby Doo: Monsters Unleashed, which released in 2004. The movie will go back to Scoobs original roots and it will be completely animated.
Tony Cervone will direct the new Scooby-Doo; he recently directed this year’s direct-to-video movie Scooby-Doo! and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who previously produced the studio’s live-action Scooby movies will be back on board for producing the movie alongside Allison Abbate, who brings experience from such animated features as Space Jam, The Iron Giant, and The LEGO Movie,
Executive Producer Dan Povenmire, co-creator of Phineas and Ferb, has jumped on board as well. The script will be written by Matt Lieberman, though there are no details on the story as of yet.
Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production commented: "Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”
Scooby Doo is already slated for a September 21, 2018 release.
