Microsoft's gritty third-person shooter series Gears of War is a lot more than just a series of "bro shooters". It has a pretty extensive lore with deep characters, like the Halo series, Gears has a whole expanded universe filled with graphic novels and full-fledged books that delve deeper into the events and characters within Gears of War. It allows you to connect to characters on a deeper level and learn more about various events that are mentioned throughout the games. It's been quite a while since we've seen a new Gears of War EU story but that's about to change.
With the reemergence of Gears of War via a new entry on Xbox One that serves as both a continuation and a soft-reboot of the games, more stories are coming in 2018. IDW Publishing and writer Kurtis Wiebe will expand on the new era of Gears and IDW Publishing will even be re-releasing a bunch of classic tales from the expanded universe.

"With the release of Gears of War 4, fans experienced all the classic callbacks to the brutal, over-the-top action and tone they were used to but there was a new dynamic created with the younger generation of heroes in JD, Kait, and Del. That's the same experience I want for the comic readers. Something that feels familiar but fresh through new, as-of-yet unexplored regions and stories of the Gears of War universe."

The first new Gears of War comic-book will release in January 2018.
