New shoot ’em up, Project Root, making its gameplay debut at PlayStation Experience

The "shoot 'em up" genre comes in many flavors, whether its sadistic bullet hells, or perhaps a more tactical vertical shooter with a heavy dose of upgrading elements, there is practically a game in the genre for any type of player. Project Root is going to flip the genre on its head with free-roaming gameplay, allowing the player to choose how to tackle the mayhem.

Project Root will be one of the many titles shown off at PlayStation Experience for the first time, so fans in attendance will be able to get their hands on the game prior to its early 2015 release date.

In Project Root, gamers will take on the role of rebel ace Lance Rockport who pilots the advanced F-72 Zonda hover fighter against the ruthless Prometheus Corporation. Taking place across eight different levels, players will take on enemies both in the air and on the ground; they’ll receive upgrades in firepower, armor and maneuverability while utilizing special weapon drops during battle, and engage in frenetic boss battles and strike at the root of the evil Prometheus Corporation.

You can check out the gameplay teaser above.
