New Splinter Cell is on the horizon according to GameStop listing

Time to get the hype train started

A short-lived listing by GameStop has possibly blown off the lid on one of most-wanted game announcements in recent years. It looks like Ubisoft is indeed working on a new Splinter Cell game and that this new entry is not far off from an official unveiling.

Fans of Ubisoft’s legendary stealth-action series have been slammed down year after year, with no new announcements made ever since 2013’s excellent Blacklist. Coming out at the tail-end of the last-gen consoles, the game sadly failed to make an impact. Thus, the franchise became dormant ever since. As such, gamers had to do with guest appearances of Sam Fisher in Ghost Recon Wildlands and mobile games. Not really a satisfying alternative.

Things started to look up when Ubisoft teased news about a new full game for this year’s E3. But in the end, no word was said about during the event, for the dismay of fans eagerly awaiting good news. Today, we finally get some hard evidence that all previous radio silence didn’t mean the franchise died. A listing by GameStop featured a physical replica of the iconic night vision goggles but wait, there’s more!

Much more of interest than a replica collectible, is the description of the goggles. GameStop quickly removed the website but thanks to DSO Gaming here’s what it said:

“For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top-selling AAA+ titles, and with the 10th release one the horizon, this is your first chance to own Sam Fisher’s signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles.”

The fact that a listing which talks about a new Splinter Cell was removed very quickly, obviously leads to thoughts that someone at the store jumped the gun, and Ubisoft is planning to officially unveil a new Splinter Cell very soon.
