New Super Mario Bros. 2 gets Coin Rush pack inspired by NES Mario

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata took to the good ol' internet to announce a special treat for New Super Mario Bros. 2 players. For a limited time, you can snag a free download of a retro-inspired Coin Rush pack.

The Gold Classics Pack features stages inspired by the NES era classics Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3. It's a nice little nostalgic treat for folks who are still trying to get mileage out of this 3DS title.

The DLC is free to download until January 31, at which point Nintendo plans to charge $2.50 for the add-on. So if you've got a copy of New Super Mario Bros. 2, I'd suggest downloading the Gold Classics Pack.

I played through the Coin Rush pack, and while I certainly thought it was an interesting and entertaining diversion, I doubt I'll be touching it again soon (or ever). But hey, the price is certainly right.
