On Friday, September 4th — a day that has now become known as "Force Friday" — Disney will unveil their new line of Star Wars toys launching alongside The Force Awakens, the newest installment in the long-standing franchise. But something bigger may be coming that day as well — an awakening. Possibly a new trailer for the highly anticipated film.
Yesterday, Disney and Lucasfilm took to Instagram to post a 15-second teaser. While brief, what it showed was huge — Finn powering up his blue lightsaber in the dark, snowy forest. Possibly the same forest we saw villain Kylo Ren in. Beyond suggesting an intense lightsaber duel between Finn and Kylo Ren, it could indicate something bigger — much bigger.
Lucasfilm hinted as much in a post finally acknowledging the clip last night. "Something big is about to go down," the company teased. While the 112 day countdown refers to the day The Force Awakens hits theaters, there's only a week until Force Friday. It's possible the hint is referring to a brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Director J.J. Abrams previously said the next trailer for The Force Awakens will drop in the Fall. That technically doesn't begin until September 23; but, with all the excitement surrounding Force Friday, why wait? What better time to drop the trailer than on a day celebrating the release of a bunch of toys for the film? I mean, there's going to be a freaking livestream unboxing event.
Keep in mind, this is only my speculation… fueled by hope. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
