Free-to-play publisher Nexon — known for games like MapleStory, Vindictus and Mabinogi — will begin acquiring South Korean developer Thingsoft.
Thingsoft is based in Seoul and is best known for their development of the popular PC games FIFA Online 1 and FIFA Online 2. They're also developing the much-anticipated Project NT, which is expected to launch in 2014. Since the developer was founded in 2010, it has a strong track record of developing AAA-quality free-to-play online games, so the acquisition by Nexon should prove formidable.
Nexon president and CEO Seungwoo Choi said in a press release, "Thingsoft has a wealth of experience in the F2P business, and a successful track record of developing AAA content. Building on our history of successful collaboration together, this transaction leverages the strengths of both companies by providing access to Thingsoft's developmental capabilities and an exciting pipeline of new titles, and Nexon's scale and global distribution platform. We look forward to working with the talented Thingsoft team to deliver a robust portfolio of titles to even more player around the world and across platforms."
Sangwon Chung, CEO of Thingsoft, called Nexon the perfect partner to help them bring their games to more players and different platforms.
