Next Call of Duty game could be coming back to 20th century

We’re getting our first clues into what the next Call of Duty game might look like – and if you’ve been itching for a return to the World War II era – this might interest you.

Sledgehammer Games is the next studio in line to release a Call of Duty game in 2017, and over the holidays they sent out a few tweets that caught plenty of attention.

They put out a countdown to 2017 video featuring all kinds of clockwork cogs and gears, but Sledgehammer co-founder and studio head Michael Condrey tweeted out the most revealing piece.

He put out a runner-up Christmas card that was developed in the studio, and it features an M1911, which was the standard U.S. service pistol in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

Keep in mind, this isn’t an official confirmation of the game’s setting, but with several of the past COD games taking place in futuristic settings, fans have been clamoring for a return to the 20th century. It’s doubtful Vietnam would be in the works since the Black Ops series covered that era, and going to World War I may not be in the studio’s best interest thanks to Battlefield 1.

COD developers have been known to put out holiday tweets in years past that reveal a bit about their upcoming games.

Frankly, coming back to World War II seems like the most natural fit for Call of Duty. It’s where the franchise started, and it’s in need of revitalization following sub-par sales of Infinite Warfare.

What do you guys think? Are you ready for Call of Duty to go back to World War II?
