Next-Gen upgrades for all of Ubisoft’s upcoming games detailed

Next-gen is almost upon us. Apart from sweet new consoles, the new generation offers a first in the form of extensive backward compatibility. On top of playing current-gen titles, the Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 even offer enhanced features.

Ubisoft now shared an extensive overview of all its next-gen titles and said upgrades. Of course, all next-gen boons come via patches. Thankfully, they are all free of charge. Meaning, owners of either new consoles can enjoy improved visuals and performance at no extra cost. It’s basically free remasters for all.

Starting with the arguably more interesting Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion, we see two different approaches. As hoped for Valhalla increases the performance to 60fps on both new systems and at resolutions of up to 4K. A very nice package and a really good reason to opt for the next-gen versions.

Watch Dogs: Legion’s next-gen upgrades are widly different however. There is no mentioning of 60fps and instead a focus on ray-traced visual effects. A shame for any console gamer who hoped to play everything in 60fps on next-gen. But seeing how the game’s setting is full of neon signs, wet London weather, the decision to go for better reflections makes sense.

Immortal Fenyx Rising, Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world action-RPG set in a mythical Greek world, also gets the 60fps treatment. The game’s cartoonish style and action-oriented gameplay should benefit from the jump in performance.

Far Cry 6 rounds up the heavy-hitters in the new announcement. The newest entry in the popular open-world FPS series is slated for a release next February. And with the confirmation that the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will run the game at 4K and 60fps, chances are you’ll want to play it on the new consoles.

One very important tidbit is that all 60fps upgrades are only confirmed for the Xbox Series X. Meaning, owners of the cheaper Series S will have to settle for 30fps.

Other notable mentions are that Rainbow Six Siege will run at a blistering 120fps on both the Series X and PS5. Ubisoft’s other multiplayer game For Honor alongside extreme sports simulator Riders Republic settle for 60fps. All of whom target 4K resulutions.
