Details on the upcoming God of War game have slowly been trickling out. Recently, the ESRB summary of the game gave us details on what to expect in the game. Prior to that, Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog, the director of God of War, revealed the game’s length.
Now, Barlog has opened up on where we the series might go once it tackles Norse mythology in the upcoming iteration in the series.
“The Greek games were the Greek era of God of War,” Barlog said in the latest issue of Game Informer (via GameSpot). “Moving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth.”
God of War has yet to release for the PlayStation 4, so there is plenty of time for the developers to decide on a direction and even if they want to pursue developing another game for the franchise.
According to Sony Santa Monica boss Shannon Studstill, getting this God of War in development was a battle in and of itself. Apparently, plenty of folks at Sony Santa Monica were happy to put God of War on the backburner for a while.
“A lot of people throughout the organization wanted [God of War] to sleep and rest,” said Studstill. Barlog added that he felt as though he had to do a lot of convincing to get his pitch heard.
“Even the first pitches I gave, there was that, ‘You’ve really got to convince me that we should do another one,'” added Barlog.
God of War is set to release in 2018 for the PlayStation 4. No release date has been announced as of yet.
