Next Red Dead Online update aims to curb ‘destructive player behavior”

Rockstar has outlined the next substantial update to the online portion of their wildly popular Wild West epos Read Dead Redemption. According to the dev, one of the main goals is to improve the Red Dead Online experience by minimizing ‘destructive player behavior’ among many more.

The online game mode for Red Dead Redemption 2 has been underway since late last year and being still in a beta, developer Rockstar is hard at work to steadily improve and enhance it. No doubt, with the passage of time, Red Dead Online is only that much more to become the main attraction and reason for players to fire up the game.

Similar to how GTA Online has established itself as a true juggernaut among multiplayer games, there’s little doubt Red Dead Online will grow in form of new content and events over the years. That proven pedigree in GTA Online is what gave us reasonable and funded trust that despite Red Dead Online not having launched in a particularly great state, in future updates most if not all criticism we had ought to change for the better.

Read Dead Online is still staying in beta for the foreseeable future, so while this transformation of it from OK to a must-play should take quite a while, with today’s news of the next update we’re happy to see Rockstar being on the ball and addressing community feedback.

This February 26th, a slew of updates are going to hit Red Dead Online. The standout points are changes to Player Visibility, Bounty & Law mechanics and the introduction of Daily Challenges.

First up, players worn out by overly aggressive players can take a deep breath, as adjustements to player visiblity should make them harder to spot on the mini-map. Now, only within 150 meters will players appear as a blip for hostile players. Slightly further than that, firing your weapon will make you appear. And being in other regions or towns won’t make player appear on hostile maps altogether, eliminating the threat of being constantly hunted by aggressive players.

To further reign in such players, they will become highlighted on the map for all players as their hostile actions continue. Balancing changes to the Bounty and Law mechanics will also make life harder for overly aggressive players and posses.

For players desiring more incentives to explore the incredible vast open-world in Red Dead Online, the addition of Daily Challenges should be a welcome addition. Complete these to gain Gold Nuggets and XP. You can read more about what these challenges entail here.
