NextCore Corporation today joined the virtual reality arms race with the launch of its NOON head-mounted display. The NOON VR headset works in tandem with the latest line of smartphones and its dedicated app, KOOM VR, and is now available for $89 via its official store and Amazon.
NOON supports devices from Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung and more, NextCore said in a statement, including iPhone 6/6 Plus, Galaxy Edge S6/S5/S4/S3, Note 4/Note 3, Xperia Z3/Z2 and plenty more. The NOON features optimized lens distortion for all supported devices.
The headset boasts a 95-degree field of view and an “IMAX quality viewing experience,” as well as a focusing dial for tailored viewing and improved use for glasses-wearers.
Low latency head tracking and minimal power consumption keeps NOON user-friendly, NextCore said. A simple tap interface and the absence of external wires only adds to this. The headset itself is also the lightest on the market at just eight ounces.
Each NOON headset will ship with a unique activation code for the KOOM VR app. Through it, NOON users can download and view videos entirely in VR mode.
The app also allows users to further customize their experience via head, eye and finger calibration, and is home to more than 1,000 pieces of VR content, including 3D videos and 360-degree environments.
