Niantic’s Pokemon GO GDC talk has been cancelled

The Catch 'Em All: 'Pokemon GO' and Real World Gaming session has been cancelled for this year's Game Developers Conference.

Pokemon GO captured the imagination of fans and gamers when its seemingly ground-breaking trailer was released back in September 2015. The game's first-look conference was expected to take place on March 14th, 2016, however just eleven days before the session it has been cancelled.

Niantic's GDC session was expected to explain how the game will work with first-hand experience, and provide what was described as an "in-depth look at how players are interacting and exploring the world with one another through Pokemon GO." The company's CEO, John Hanke, was also scheduled to spearhead the talk before news of a cancellation came through.

For those that are not aware, the game will allow people to connect using their smartphones and catch Pokemon outdoors using the Pokemon GO Plus device, as seen in the trailer above.

GDC's official statement on the game is as follows:

"Pokemon GO, ups the challenge of real world gaming design, taking a beloved franchise and setting its hundreds of brightly-colored monsters loose across the globe, adding a new Bluetooth wearable device created by Nintendo to the mix.

Join Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke as he discusses how the company has developed a unique vision for delivering a mobile Pokemon experience that gets would-be trainers into the outdoors."

There was a mild expectation that a release date might well have been announced during the event, but now it seems Pokemon fans will have to wait a little longer than expected.

When events are cancelled in a sudden fashion, such as this, it is easy to get caught up with rumours of failures within the Pokemon GO project. But, there has been no official announcement to suggest this as of yet.
