NieR: Automata is easily one of 2017's most underrated games, but it went anything but unnoticed. Developer Platinum Games didn't even expect the kind of success the game would have, so much so that co-founder, Hideki Kamiya says that the game "saved" the studio. With the newfound financial and morality boom, Platinum Games has already started preparations for the next game in the series.
In an interview (translated by Gematsu), NieR's series producer Yosuke Saito confirmed that another NieR game is in the works and that he hopes Director Yoko Taro will return. "As for a game, we’re making preparations for the setting which you could guess from the fact that we were recruiting a scenario planner," said Saito referencing a job posting made back in September.
As for Yoko Taro, who is widely known for his lovable eccentric personality, he will (likely) return according to Saito.
"He is [involved]… I would like to believe. Yoko says he will do anything as long as he receives money for it, but there is no one who doesn’t move for money as much as that man. He only wants to do what he wants to do. So I’ll try my best to explicitly say what he doesn’t want to do to guide him towards what I want to do."
NieR: Automata is currently one of the PlayStation 4's highest rated games of 2017, and its PC version has received a mostly positive reception from Steam users. If you haven't already played it, you're missing out, and if you do, make sure to start a new game after you beat it.
