Nintendo 3DS outsells all other hardware in February 2015

Even the PS4 and Xbox One

Despite the power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, neither could compete with the Nintendo 3DS. Boosted by the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the Nintendo 3DS was the top-selling hardware platform in the United States for February 2015.

Nintendo noted that the "Nintendo 3DS family" — which comprises all versions of the 3DS, including the 2DS — sold nearly 395,000 units in the United States. The "great majority" of these sales, according to Nintendo, were the New Nitnendo 3DS XL systems, which sold 130 percent more units in its initial frame than the Nintendo 3DS XL did when it launched back in August 2012.

On the software side of things, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D was the best-selling title for the month, racking up more than 515,000 combined physical and digital units sold. According to Nintendo, the game is now the fastest-selling Legend of Zelda handheld title in U.S. history.

For the knockout punch, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate sold more than 290,000 combined physical and digital units, making it the fastest-selling Monster Hunter title — across all platforms — in U.S. history.

Looking ahead, there's no reason not to believe the 3DS won't continue to pick up steam (sorry for the upcoming pun) thanks to a strong lineup of software that includes Code Name: S.T.E.AM. on March 13 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on April 10.
