In a surprise announcement during today's Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that not only are Nintendo 64 and DS games coming to the Wii U Virtual Console, but that they are available today.
When playing Nintendo DS Virtual Console games, your television and Wii U Gamepad will provide multiple dual screen layout options to maximize your enjoyment. While some will use your TV as the main screen, others will use both screens as one connected screen. No matter what type of Nintendo DS game, you can select whatever layout best suits that layout.
For Nintendo 64 Virtual Console titles, you can select from one of three different control schemes and then configure specific buttons to your liking. What's more, if a specific N64 game supported the rumble pack, the Wii U Gamepad will also rumble.
Both Nintendo DS and 64 games can be played on the Gamepad screen as well.
Nintendo 64 Virtual Console games will be priced anywhere from $9.99 to $11.99, while Nintendo DS games will cost $6.99 to $9.99. However, N64 games you've already purchased on Wii and transfer to Wii U will be available for $2 each.
Starting today, Yoshi's Island DS ($9.99) and Super Mario 64 ($9.99) will be available for the Wii U Virtual Console. Here's the rest of the release schedule mentioned:
April 9
Yoshi Touch & Go ($9.99)
Wario Ware Touched! ($9.99)
April 16
Donkey Kong 64 ($9.99)
April 23
Mario Kart DS ($9.99)
April 30
