Nintendo confirms Amiibo cards will replace hard to find figures

Curses!

Leave it to Nintendo to take something "performing especially well" and change it up. Well, looks like the rumor about Amiibo cards is true. Certain Instead of ramping up production of harder to find Amiibo figures like Rosalina, Shulk and Lucario to meet consumers' demands , it looks like Nintendo will be taking a different route — one that will surely piss off fans and collectors.

During a financial briefing, Satoru Iwata confirmed plans to release certain Amiibo as cards:

"In contrast to the current figure-shaped Amiibo available, we will make Amiibo in the form of cards this year as one of our future plans as Mr. Miyamoto mentioned at the Corporate Management Policy Briefing in October," CEO and president Satoru Iwata said during the company's financial results briefing today.

Damn.

As someone who legitimately likes to collect figures like these and already has a ton of Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures, it breaks my heart that I won't ever be able to get my hands on some of these Amiibo, unless I fork over 5 times the normal asking price. That process of attempting to buy out entire inventories and resell at ridiculous prices is an abhorrent practice, one that Nintendo also recently had a problem with regarding the limited-edition Majora's Mask New 3DS.

Given the popularity of Amiibo (5.7 million units already shipped worldwide by the end of last year), that Nintendo doesn't ramp up production as it would seem like they'd make their money back in sales. Seriously, it's like Nintendo hates making money. Granted, I'm no financial expert so I'm speaking purely out of speculation and slight anger.

I'm pissed that those sweet looking Amiibo won't be displayed on my shelf, and there is no way I'm buying into cards. Sorry Nintendo.
