Nintendo Delays The Drop For 64-Gigabyte Switch Game Cards Til 2019

The Nintendo Switch has been enjoying some good sales numbers, especially thanks to the holiday season, and their first-party titles have been topping many Game of the Year lists. The physical cards used for games on the Nintendo Switch have been maxed at a 32-gig size, but the use of 64-gigabyte cards was planned further down the line. We’re now learning that this move has been delayed.

According to Wall Street Journal, Nintendo told outside game developers that it was delaying the rollout of 64-gigabyte game cards for the Nintendo Switch until 2019. This may mean fans will have to wait for more “Data-rich software titles.”

The delay comes after it was announced that 10 million units of Nintendo Switch have been moved. The rollout was planned for the second half of 2018, but was pushed back due to technical issues. This has possibly disappointed a number of US-based developers, who are known for data-heavy titles, and it may even delay their releasing of titles on the Switch.

However, many 3rd-party developers will continue to offer the remaining content that couldn’t fit on the card initially as a download as seen previously.
