The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a wildly successful return to Nintendo's staple series on their brand new handheld system (at the time of release), the Nintendo Switch. With the Nintendo Switch and Zelda Breath of the Wild nearly one year old, fans have already begun questioning the developers on the future games in the series.
Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi told IGN that the future plans for Zelda aren't set in stone, but they do have a lot of ideas in the works and plenty of inspiration from the most recent DLC to work with.
I can’t say at this point if it will be in sequels or in continuations, or what form it will take, but I definitely have lots of ideas and lots of motivation right now.
I think while we were working on both the main game and the DLC, it was a process of constantly getting lots of different, new ideas as we refined the game, and finding new things we wanted to do. Even in situations like this, talking to people and finding out that people want to pet dogs gives me a lot of motivation, a lot of ideas for things we could put into the game.
Eiji Aonuma detailed his hopes for the next Zelda game a few months ago, saying he wanted to work in some surprises for the game, like Breath of the Wild did, as well as maintain the open-world feature.
