Nintendo distributing NX dev kits to developers

Nintendo will not be speaking on the specifics of their next "dedicated game system," the NX, until 2016, but that doesn't mean that the system won't be making its rounds with developers until then. According to sources speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo has begun sending out NX developer kits to third-party developers.

By distributing NX dev kits, Nintendo intends to have a line-up of games in development when they official reveal the new device. How the NX will function and what it looks like has yet to be revealed, but Nintendo recently filed a patent for a disk-less stationary game console – that included a Wii U GamePad-like peripheral.

The patents supports claims from individuals 'familiar with the development plans' that said Nintendo would likely be pairing the NX with a mobile unit.

Earlier speculation suggested that the NX would be an Android based console, but again, none of this has been confirmed by Nintendo. What we do know is that Dragon Quest 10 and Dragon Quest 11 have been officially confirmed for Nintendo's NX device.

If rumors prove to be true, the NX will release by October of next year – which will have us hearing about the console in early 2016.
