Nintendo files patent for game console with additional detachable gaming device

Earlier this year Nintendo filed a patent for a diskless stationary game console that apparently supported game cartridges, as well as SD cards. A new patent has surfaced detailing a stationary game console with a 'supplemental computing device' that has the ability to display and audio output of the game remotely.

According to the patent application, users would see benefits from sharing their resources with other players or by using the supplemental device for some time.  The main hypothesis surrounding the patent is that the stationary game console is a more powerful version of the supplemental device that takes the handheld device, along with its games, and makes them accessible on your TV set while the two are connected.

Another hypothesis is that this patent will work similarly to what Microsoft attempted with One, where cloud computations helped the game run better. There's really no way of confirming that this patent will have something to do with the NX, but I would hazard to say that the supplemental device is a 3DS or 2DS that will be compatible with the NX console, but that's simply my own opinion.

Here's a brief look at one portion of the patent, you can see the rest here.

1.) A gaming system, comprising: a game console comprising one or more processors configured to locally execute a game and provide video output of the game to a display and audio output of the game to a speaker, the game console including a physical network interface and a wireless communication interface; and a supplemental computing device configured to detachably couple to the game console via the physical communication interface, the supplemental computing device comprising: one or more processors configured to provide, over the physical communication interface, processing resources to the game console to assist the game console in locally executing the game; and memory for receiving data associated with the game from the game console and storing the data for later access by the game console wherein the game console is further configured to couple, via the wireless communication interface, to another supplemental computing device, the another supplemental computing device including one or more processors to provide processing resources to the game console and memory for providing storage resources to the game console.
