Nintendo granted Wii U Panorama View patent

The Panorama View feature — coming to the Wii U eShop as a paid downloadable app next spring — is a feature that allows Wii U owners to use the GamePad to view a different perspective to what is shown on-screen. Today, Nintendo was granted a patent for the Panorama View feature.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about patents and the documentation that Nintendo submitted, but according to Engadget, the documents goes into great detail about the gyrosensors used to determine the GamePad's change in position. If you're a patent junky, you can view the whole patent at the United States Patent and Trademark Office site HERE.

I had some hands-on time with the Panorama View feature at E3 this year, and I was mildly impressed. It was a fun, little feature to mess around with. While it's already present in some games (kinda/sorta) like Nintendo Land, the app puts you in environments like Japanese cities. You can look all around you and zoom in and out — it was pretty neat.
