Nintendo is releasing an insanely difficult Mario puzzle

Nintendo is a company filled with geniuses, even if they seem a bit out of touch sometimes, but whoever was in charge of releasing this brand new 1000 piece Super Mario puzzle has clearly never, ever attempted to solve an actual puzzle of their own. Look at the image below, see if you can figure out what's wrong with it.

Stuck? I'll give you a hint, more than half of the entire puzzle is just the color red. There's no variation in it, it's just the same shade of red. Most puzzles might take an hour or two to solve with some simple trial and error and basic problem solving but this is going to take any veteran puzzle solver quite a lot of time.
