It looks like Nintendo will be working on creating another Mario movie, except it won't be live-action this time. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is nearing a deal with the studio responsible for “Despicable Me,” “Minions” and “The Secret Life of Pets” to make a Super Mario movie.
The report states that Illumination has been speaking with Nintendo for over a year to reach an agreement. Both Nintendo and Illumination declined to comment on the speculation, however, it is being stated that Nintendo has been hesitant to agree to create the movie over a lack of confidence on whether they will be involved enough with the creation of the film.
Sources say that Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario Bros., has been included in the talks and likely will be a producer on the movie.
The film will likely no release for several years as it is in the early stages of development.
