Nintendo's next 'dedicated game system' has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement earlier this year. Of the few details that have been revealed for the system, codenamed NX, Nintendo has confirmed that it will not be the next iteration of a Wii or Wii U.
Nintendo has been quietly filing for patents for the NX, with plans that suggest free-form display and a diskless stationary game console, but Nintendo has yet to confirm whether or not the NX will even be a stationary home console, a handheld or some kind hybrid.
It appears as though Koei Tecmo's President and CEO Yoichi Erikawa considers the NX for be a home console, listing it alongside the PS4 in an interview with 4Gamer (via Siliconera).
4Gamer: Lately it seems that [home] consoles haven’t been doing too well, but is that the case? At least that’s what we’re wondering.
Erikawa: Actually, I think that it’ll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new ‘machine’ called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines.
We should be seeing official news on the NX from Nintendo some time in 2016.
