Rumors have been circulating about Nintendo bringing back video game cartridges for some time, and now it looks like the Nintendo NX will be the console that delivers on that speculation.
A report from The Wall Street Journal revealed that an anonymous source approached the publication with claims that the Japanese developer will adopt cartridges for their upcoming console.
For many years Nintendo opted towards cartridges as opposed to the discs for their consoles, with both Sony and Microsoft preferring to use discs instead.
The return of cartridges would be the latest push from Nintendo towards their old fan base, with nostalgia, following the recent announcement that a mini NES console would hit shelves this November.
Nintendo has not commented on the rumors surrounding the NX as of yet, therefore we would encourage our readers to take these rumors with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made – as always.
So, would you like to see the Nintendo bring back cartridges for the NX?
One of the main advantages of having cartridges is of course their robustness. You could easily keep them outside of their protective cases, whereas CDs often scratch and require a bit more care.
There are a few other reasons that gamers, and even developers, favour cartridges over discs.
For example, cartridges are more difficult to pirate, cartridge games might well run faster, they could even be more portable, but if you have any other particular reasons why you would prefer the Nintendo NX to have cartridges instead of discs, feel free to let us know in the comments section below!
