Nintendo should just show us the NX already. By now, everyone knows it exists, what its hardware features might be and what the controller might look like. In an interview with the Asashi Shimbun, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima sat down to talk all things Nintendo, including the NX.
Kimishima reiterated that the NX is going to provide "something very new" to the gaming space and that he doesn't consider it to be a direct replacement for the Wii U or the 3DS. In many ways, it seems like he feels like the NX is a third body in Nintendo's gaming repertoire.
He said:
"It’s something very new…the NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact that the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U."
Kimishima also acknowledged that Nintendo committed a few missteps in the release of the Wii U. As a result, he felt that it was in the company's best interest to delay the NX's release.
"It's for the purposes of our game development schedule. When people finish the launch titles, they'll want things to buy in spring, on summer break, at Christmas. As such, it's not simply a question of when the hardware's ready; rather, we need to ensure our software lineup is also in a good place…That was indeed a learning experience for us."
Whatever happens, we are very interested to see what the NX's "new way of playing games" is and soon.
