Nintendo officially announces Walmart exclusive Super Mario amiibo Gold Edition

It's official. That really sweet Gold Super Mario amiibo is a Walmart exclusive.

Nintendo fully announced the details today, confirming the Super Mario amiibo Gold Edition, "a shiny gold-colored Mario figure," will arrive on March 20 alongside the Wii U's Mario Party 10. Here's the kicker though, this special amiibo will only be sold exclusively at 3,000 Walmart stores in the United States, so good luck getting one. On the bright side, if you do find one, it's only priced at $12.96.

The new gold-colored Mario amiibo is compatible with multiple games that support amiibo. In Mario Party 10, there's a special amiibo Party mode that you can only access by tapping your compatible amiibo figures on the Wii U GamePad controller to customize them and bring them into the game as board pieces. You'll also be able to save items for the amiibo and use them strategically during the game. In addition to the Gold Mario amiibo, a special line of nine other characters will launch alongside the game.

Other amiibo compatible games include Super SMash Bros. for Wii U/3DS, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors. How each amiibo figure interacts with the games differs, so check out the full list of amiibo compatibility here.

This Gold Edition figure is the third to represent the Mario amiibo. The other two are:

• The original ‘fireball’ Mario from the Super Smash Bros. series.
• A new ‘wave’ Mario from the Super Mario series available on March 20, for a limited time bundled only with Mario Party 10.
