It was 14-years ago today that the Nintendo GameCube was released in North America. The console was discontinued in 2007, but not before it helped define a generation and help clear the way for Nintendo's next endeavor… the Wii.
Now the GameCube saw some N64 games get ported to the system, but in no way did that hold the console down. Heck, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are ripe with remastered games! Seeing as today is the anniversary of the GameCube's release, we should take a second and throw some respect at the games that engulfed our lives.
What games were on the GameCube? The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, for starters. The best part is, Twilight Princess is officially coming back for round two — Nintendo has officially announced that the game is getting remastered for the Wii U.
Other GameCube games were…
Super Smash Bros. Melee (the party game of 2001+), Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Pikman, Resident Evil, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure and so many more! It was a system to remember and one to occasionally bring off the shelf.
I know that Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros. Melee were my jam for a long, long time. I might even consider busting out the ol' GameCube tonight for old time's sake.
