Nintendo removes another portion of Fire Emblem Fates for Western audiences

After having removed what was deemed a 'gay conversion' scene from the Western version of Fire Emblem fates, it has been revealed that another portion of the Japanese version of the game has been removed as well.

The localized version of the game will not be including a minigame that was featured in the Japanese versions of Fire Emblem, according to reports from Kotaku. The minigame consisted of players sending their hero/heroine to their home, then calling one of the companions to come over and pet their face.

In the game, the character's face would appear on the screen and players would tap or rub the screen to build up their affection. The in-game characters would react to this either favorably or get upset. Ultimately, the petting game resulted in a small boost of affection – it is similar to petting your Pokemon in Pokemon X and Y (example).

Here's an example of the minigame:

A Nintendo representative commented on localization not long ago, when the 'gay conversion' scene change was brought to the community's attention.

"Making changes is not unusual when we localize games, and we have indeed made changes in these games. When we localize a game we do so in order to make it appropriate for that particular territory," said a Nintendo representative on the decision to remove the 'gay conversion' scene. "All our choices were made from that point of view.

Fire Emblem Fates will be released on the Nintendo 3DS on February 19, 2016.
