Nintendo reveals sales for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Fire Emblem: Awakening

Speaking at a Nintendo event in San Francisco, company executive vice president of sales and marketing, Scott Moffitt, revealed the U.S. sales of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Although the data will be reflected in tomorrow's NPD report, Moffitt confirmed Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon has sold 415,000 copies in the U.S, while Fire Emblem: Awakening has sold 240,000.

Getting into specifics, Moffitt revealed the "vast majority" of Dark Moon sales have been through retail, while more than a third of Fire Emblem's sales — about 80,000 — have been through the Nintendo eShop. Over half of those consumers have purchased a map pack for Fire Emblem. Looking ahead, there are still nine more map packs planned for the RPG, with three of the nine due out later this month.

Unfortunately, the outlook for the U.S. gaming industry on the whole appears bleak. While we're still awaiting the official numbers from NPD, earlier notes from investors and analysts paint dreary picture for March. Gears of War: Judgment and God of War: Ascension — two highly anticipated blockbusters — are said to have "significantly underperformed" for the month. Console and handheld software sales are expected to be down 21% year-on-year.
