Nintendo’s first mobile app, Miitomo is a huge success

Back when Nintendo announced that they were planning on making mobile games the internet went completely crazy. Some thought it would be great while others thought it would flop, well, we now know that their first mobile app, Miitomo has launched and it is getting great traction.
At the moment, the app is only available to download in Japan where market researcher App Annie (via Bloomberg Business) stated it has reached No.1 among other social-networking apps on iOS devices.
“This should remove any doubts about the Nintendo brand’s relevancy in the smartphone age,” said Atul Goyal, an analyst at Jefferies Group LLC. “More than just a messaging tool, Miitomo can be a platform for distributing Nintendo content and probably third-party content at a later stage.”
If you have yet to hear about Miitomo, it is a social network app where you can take a picture of yourself and generate a cartoon Mii character like on the original Wii or Wii U. Players have the ability to change facial features, set personalities and choose a voice and by connecting with more players and answering some daily questions will earn you some virtual coins.
Miitomo is planning to debut later this month in more than 15 countries including the U.S., France, Germany, and Russia.
