Nintendo's Year of Luigi, which actually lasted longer than a year, has officially come to an end. It actually came to a close a few days ago on March 18, as Nintendo had promised it would.
"Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!" designer Shigeru Miyamoto said in a farewell post last month.
"However, all good things must come to an end," he added.
It's been a nice run for Luigi who, in the past year, has seen several games and accessories released based on his appearance. The list includes Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for 3DS, as well as New Super Luigi U, a standalone expansion to New Super Mario Bros. U.
Not bad for a character that normally resides in the oversized shadow of his chubby brother, Mario. Sadly, the year's celebrations were also dampened by the passing of Danny Wells, the Luigi actor from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
