Nintendo Switch gets a quick patch that resolves HDMI issues from Update 4.0

Last week, the Nintendo Switch got a fairly meaty firmware update which included a bundle of new and exciting features including GameCube controller support. Unfortunately, as it is typical, the addition of the new features seemed to inadvertently break something else, as some Switch users reported having issues with the system's HDMI port outputting sound and video.

Nintendo has now released a small update, with a very brief description of what it does. Here it is:

Improvements Included in Version 4.0.1
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including:

    • Changed the HDMI connection process specification to match that of version 3.0.2 to address video and sound output issues with some TV models.

The Nintendo Switch is gradually catching up with its competitors on the feature front with the additions of Pre-ordering and Pre-loading, as well as being able to capture video and share it to social media. It would still be nice to be able to stream games from the Switch, but it's best to get these things one at a time, I suppose.

In other Nintendo Switch news, the console/portable hybrid is on the cusp of getting its second all-time great game this year, as reviews of Super Mario Odyssey are in, and they are nothing but universal praise. Super Mario Odyssey releases tomorrow exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
