Nintendo Switch Lite officially unveiled, Launching this September for $199

Nintendo has officially announced a new Switch revision. Called the Nintendo Switch Lite, this version of Nintendo’s popular new gaming system is a purely handheld device without detachable Joy-Cons. The Switch Lite will be launching very soon, this September 20th for only $199.99. Watch the entry-friendly new system in action and learn more about it in the official reveal video below!

After the massive flop that the Wii U ended up being, Nintendo did it again and rose from the ashes with their successor, the Nintendo Switch. Once again, the cult Japanese game company turned accustomed paradigms about what a console and handheld is on its head, by creating a unique hybrid. The Switch’s foremost feature of combining both handheld gaming and traditional TV consoles into one device became a massive success. It sure helped that Nintendo managed to churn out one masterpiece after another in the games department, too.

Now, the Switch family of devices is growing in form of the Switch Lite. As the name suggests, this version is aimed towards customers who don’t want to pay $299.99 for the regular Switch, and instead is priced a whole $100 lower at just $199.99. Obviously, something had to change for this to be possible.

The Switch Lite is a pure handheld device. Gone is the option to put it in a stand and use it more like a traditional home console. The detachable Joy-Cons also are gone now. Instead, we are presented with a well-known handheld system very similar to the PlayStation Vita. The screen size has also been paired down from 6.2″ to 5.5″. The good news of a smaller device, is the battery will reportedly last a bit longer. The system now also features a regular Dpad.

In terms of game compatibility, Nintendo ensures that every Switch game that supports handheld mode will be playable. It’s should also be mentioned that while detachable Joy-Cons and the kickstand are gone, users will still be able to pair Joy-Cons and Pro Controller with the Switch Lite.

You can learn much more about the differences between the old Switch and the Switch Lite on Nintendo’s official comparison website here.
