Nintendo has finally revealed when they plan on releasing the online services for the Nintendo Switch. The service was initially revealed to release in 2017, however, the launch was pushed back to Fall 2018 shortly after.
According to Nintendo, the online service will be releasing in September 2018. Nintendo did not specify what day the online service will release, just that it is set to launch at some point in September.
Once the paid service goes live, users will be able to choose whether they wish to pay by month, annually, or every three months.
1-Month Membership
3-Month Membership
12-Month Membership
Nintendo Switch owners have been able to play online with one another for free in the interim, however, when the service launches Switch owners will need to subscribe to the service in order to access online gameplay.
The Nintendo Switch’s online service will allow subscribers to play online multiplayer games, chat with one another, and will allow access to a catalog of classic games. The accessible classic games are expected to rotate monthly, which means that once the next month rolls along, subscribers will have to purchase the game in order to continue playing.
Nintendo will reportedly be adding updated features to classic games, such as leaderboards and multiplayer.
New details on the service are expected to be revealed later this year.
