Nintendo Switch Sales Nears 5 Million In Only Four Months

A lot of those sales are thanks to Zelda at 4 million copies sold.

The Nintendo Switch released earlier this year in March. Since then, Nintendo has announced that the console has sold nearly five million units. Continuing on, they project 10 million in sales by March of next year.

These sales numbers were revealed in their quarterly earnings report, specifically hitting 4.7 million units at the end of June. For any who have played it, it's no surprise that the console's biggest seller is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwhich sold 3.92 million units. It has since launched its first story DLC, with more on the way around Holiday 2017.

Nintendo Switch Sales Nears 5 Million In Only Four Months

Following ZeldaMario Kart 8 Deluxe brought in 3.5 million copies. Beyond that, the only other Switch game to sell over 1 million units was Arms at 1.18 million units. It should be noted that while Splatoon 2  was another big seller, it was not included in the April-June report, seeing as it was released in July. It falls into the second quarter of 2017, the numbers of which have yet to be revealed.

The Nintendo Switch started out strong, seeing many issues in terms of keeping units on the shelves in the first months of release. 2.74 million units were shipped in March alone.

Shortage in supply is still an issue for the Switch, but this hasn't affected sales in a negative way. In fact, all logic leads to more sales if the console were more readily available. It will be interesting to see where the Switch goes in terms of its one-year mark.
