The biggest knock on the Nintendo Switch was its exclusion of apps like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video. Well, fortunately for Nintendo, all three of these are in the works to be included on the Switch.
While being interviewed by The Washington Post, Reggie Fils-Aime, COO of Nintendo America, reaffirmed the promise of streaming apps on the Switch but has yet to give a confirmed timeline.
“We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time,” said Fils-Aime. “In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.”
He also defends the lack of launch titles by stating the long-term success of the Switch is in the continued release of games. “My answer is to look at the games that have been announced and are in development, and that should drive your purchase decision,” he told the Post.
With the somewhat small line-up of launch titles (something that happens with every console to date), early reports show the Switch selling more in two days in the Americas than any other Nintendo system. The addition of these streaming apps can only help these numbers and keep Switches in people’s hands longer.
