Nintendo Switch will bring back friend codes; can only have up to 300 friends

One of the most hated Nintendo features is making its glorious return on the Nintendo Switch. Of course, we're talking about friend codes. A random, lengthy code that you give to your friends so they can add you. It makes adding people much more complicated because you probably won't memorize a friend code like your Xbox username.

The options when adding friends are:

  • Search for local users
  • Search for users you played with
  • Search with friend code

Searching for local users probably refers to adding people nearby you who also have a Nintendo Switch. On top of that, the max number of people you can add is 300. While that's lower than other current consoles, who has time to keep track of 300 individual people?!

It's possible that when Nintendo launches their online service this spring they'll add a username searcher, but it remains to be seen.

Nintendo Switch launches March 3rd alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is killing it in reviews.
