Owners of a Nintendo Switch, rejoice! Developer Mossmouth revealed that both its Spleunky games will launch for the Switch next summer. Watch the announcement trailer here!
Gamers on the PC and PlayStation 4 have been enjoying Spelunky 2 for quite some time already. The long-awaited sequel to one of the best roguelikes of all time came out just earlier this summer. We truly loved what Mossmouth achieved with the sequel. You can read more about our thoughts on Spelunky 2 in our review here.
Since the platformer isn’t really that taxing on the hardware, it was always weird that it didn’t release for the Switch earlier. But alas, Nintendo gamers didn’t even get the first Spelunky up until now.
But today is a reason for joy, as the gameplay design and quick runs of the roguelike are really the perfect fit for the handheld. As cliché as it sounds, Spelunky is an awesome portable experience.
Meet the next generation of explorers as they find themselves on the Moon, searching for treasure and missing family. Spelunky 2 builds upon the unique, randomized challenges that made the original a classic, offering a huge adventure designed to satisfy players old and new.
While it’s awesome that the 2013 original comes to Switch, the undoubted highlight is its sequel, Spelunky 2. Not only does it offer massive amounts of new content over the original. The developers also made good on focusing to expand the multiplayer component extensively.
One aspect that is certainly going to become a big part of the fun. The PC version of Spelunky 2 just got its online mode yesterday. It’s only available in beta at the moment and does not offer cross-play with the PS4 though.
Latter is an added bonus for Switch owners who’ll be able to play with the existing large PlayStation and PC player-base. You can wishlist both games on the Eshop right now!
