Nintendo Switch will offer more third-party support than the Wii U

After the Nintendo Switch presentation the gaming community broke up into various positions on the device, there were those that felt as though the console was in trouble, others who would believe it would be ok, and a few who didn't really care about the console at all.

The Wii U's lack of third party developers and games was a part of why the console failed, which is partially why so many gamers are worried about the Nintendo Switch. In an interview with ProJared, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo confirmed that they would be doing everything they could to make the Nintendo Switch different – as long as there is an install base.

“What third parties want are a large, growing install base, a development environment that’s easy for them to work in, they want the ability to monetize their content—whether on the initial sale or downloadable content,” Fils-Aime said.

“That’s what they want and we were not able to deliver that fully on the Wii U. We are going to be able to deliver that fully with Nintendo Switch. With our launch, with our own first-party games, we’ll sustain momentum and create that opportunity for third parties.”
