The Nintendo Switch has been just as difficult to acquire as the Wii was back in its heyday. As soon as a Switch comes to GameStop shelves, they proceed to sell out in a matter of days. Nintendo has spoken up on this matter, specifically in reference to Holiday 2017.
"We're doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so," Nintendo said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. "We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast."
Nintendo officially plans to ship 10 million units to retailers by the end of its fiscal year which ends on March 31, 2018. It's estimated that more may be required to meet demand, closer to around 18 million units. Nintendo's latest numbers have the Switch at 4.7 million units sold worldwide. Meanwhile, Nintendo's stock is up 50 percent since the release back in March.
The increase in production for the holidays makes sense, especially after Gamescom named Super Mario Odyssey the "Best at Gamescom".
