Although the 3DS has yet to formally be announced for reservation in the United States, that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from single-handedly winning the console war for most systems sold during last week’s Black Friday.
Between Sunday, November 21 and Saturday November 27, Nintendo sold 900,000 DS systems and 600,000 Wiis. Nintendo attributes its success to three holiday bundles that are readily available in stores:
-Limited-edition Mario red Wii hardware in honor of the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. on the NES. It includes a new red Wii system, a Wii Remote Plus, a Nunchuk controller, and the games New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports for $199.99.
-A limited-edition red DSi XL bundle in honor of the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. on the NES. It features a “Mario red” DSi XL system, Super Mario Bros.-themed graphics, a copy of Mario Kart DS and preloaded software including Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock. Its MSRP is worth $179.99.
-Orange and green DSi systems, which are bundled with Mario Party DS. They are available at a suggested retail price of $149.99.
