Nioh’s Cinematic/Action modes get a PS4 Pro update

One of Nioh's coolest features is the ability to select performance options. Players can use the cinematic mode to have the game aim for 1080p/30fps, or drop the resolution to focus on a 60fps target. If you're like me, a fan of 60fps in an industry that aims for “cinematic” 30 fps, then this is a welcome feature that should come to all console games.

That was before the PS4 Pro was announced, and before Sony signed on as publisher to push the game as if it were a first party title. Now, Koei Tecmo has given fans some additional options to take advantage of the extra power coming with the Pro:

For Pro users with 1080p TVs, the cinematic mode will be 1080p/30fps, but comes with AA to clean the images up quite a bit. The action mode will have its resolution upgraded to 1080p while maintaining a solid 60 fps.

For Pro users with 4k TVs, the cinematic mode will render images at 3840 x 2160 (native 4k) at 30fps, while the action mode will run at 1080p/60fps, upscaled to 4k.

Nioh is shaping up pretty well: It's filling the void left by Dark Souls, honestly taking fan feedback into consideration, giving players options, taking advantage of the Pro's extra power, and has Sony putting their advertising muscle behind it. Hopefully nothing goes drastically wrong between now and release, so we can see Koei Tecmo return to greatness on a grand stage.
