No, Bethesda isn’t developing The Elder Scrolls 6 yet

It looks like people need to calm down over the apparent "confirmation" of Elder Scrolls 6 being in development. Excitement might have overtaken the community when Bethesda's Game Director Todd Howard responded to an interview question.

Over the weekend, two statements were made to clarify the mix up, both made by Pete Hines.

"[Howard] said we were going to make it," clarified Bethesda's Pete Hines to PC Gamer. "He never said it was in development."

Recently, Bethesda's Todd Howard was quoted confirming that the developers have Elder Scrolls 6 in their sites. Howard didn't give much information on the upcoming except the fact that what the developers are planning may require extra technology – technology they might not even have yet.

Looking at the original quote, found below, you'll see that Howard openly states that Elder Scrolls 6 is something the team is planning, but that it won't be coming any time soon:

“That's kind of like the elephant in the room, always, when we talk about anything, and I think it's good to tell our fans in these moments, yes, of course we are [making Elder Scrolls 6]. It's something we love. But it is – I have to be careful what I say – it's a very long way off.

"I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology – how long is that going to take?' And so it's something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game."

In Howard's response, he states that "it's a very long way off" and that they might not have the technology for what they have planned. Additionally, he even says that it's "going to take a lot of time" for the game to be developed.

The response itself sounds like Bethesda has begun drawing up general plans for the game, but has not commit themselves to anything yet.
