The new Star Wars trilogy has already made a name for itself because well… it's Star Wars and also because it has a perfect combination between old and new. Our beloved heroes from the 1970s and 80s have returned 30 years later to join a new band of unlikely heroes in rebeling against an evil force known as The First Order.
Characters like Han Solo, Princess Leia, C3-P0, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker have all made appearences in the new trilogy but there's one friendly face people still really want to see, Cloud City's own Lando Calrissian. Many fans have been wondering if he'll pop up in the middle chapter of the new trilogy, just like the original trilogy but sadly, that won't happen.
Speaking to EW, director Rian Johnson broke the bad news about Lando's non-existant return.
“No, and I don’t want fans to get their hopes up, he’s not in the film and it was never really something that came up.
“I mean, I loved that character.” He continues. “It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.”
That doesn't mean he can't pop up in Episode IX, though! J.J. Abrams is set to helm the final entry in this saga and he's a sucker for nostalgia so maybe he'll bring back the loveable traitor.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
