I don't usually feel the need to dispel rumors that are obviously false. However, so many people (including ignoramuses on Facebook) bought into this one and felt outrage at the morally bankrupt movie studios that's I'd like to clear things up.
Yesterday, there was a report made by Drudge Report that claimed Leonardo DiCaprio is raped twice by a bear in his upcoming film, The Revenant. "The bear flips Leo over and thrusts and thrusts during the explicit mauling." Other sites like Daily Mail — sites I don't visit — picked up the story and ran with it. All of this hoopla caused Fox to release the following statement:
"As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."
I mean, c'mon people. Really? This needs to be a trending topic on Facebook? REALLY?
The Revenant is based on a novel, and in the novel there is also a bear attack, of which the text makes no mention of rape. Also, the bear is female in the novel. Not saying that female bears aren't capable of rape — I'm just saying there's no female-bear-on-Leo rape scene in this film.
All of this was inspired by the life of Hugh Glass, who is August 1823 was mauled by a mother bear protecting her cubs. He managed to kill the bear, but was badly wounded and left behind by his party, who claimed he was dead. Thus, the events of the movie… no rape though.
