After months of concerning silence, No Man's Sky developer, Hello Games, has announced the first content update for the space exploration game. While exact details are scarce at the moment, their blog post mentions that it'll allow new features like base building and will put "in place a foundation for things to come."
Hello Games says the update will be coming this week (they probably mean next week because today is Friday) and exact details and a release date will be coming very soon. The blog post went on to address the concerns of fans and mentioned how they are listening to all feedback despite them being radio silent.
"The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.
Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.
This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us."
Hello Games also notes this will not be their biggest update but says "it's the start of something".
No Man's Sky released back in August and was panned by critics and fans after not living up to the hype or delivering on promises made by developer Sean Murray and his studio Hello Games. The game was missing tons of features that were shown or promised by the studio and caused an uproar amongst the community.
It became such an issue at one point that the ASA had to step in and make an official investigation on the game and studio. The studio went dark soon after launch and only briefly came back after someone hacked their Twitter account to tweet out "No Man's Sky was a mistake".
